It is often unclear to what extent individuals are aware of, let alone consent to, the collection, use and disclosure of their personal information through these various channels.856 Since 2006, technology has rapidly changed and advanced. New sources of consumer information now also include social media sites and search engines such as Google. There are significant challenges with protecting individuals’ personal information from such data brokerage practices.
